my engine is a 1.48lb/hp and the AeroV VW is 1.98lb/hp. It doesn't get much better, especially if one wants to stay with existing technology.

Looks good Richard.  I'm still interested in single rotors, but the weight just isn't quite where I need it to be for the planes I'm looking at.  It would be great if this could match the weight of a VW engine. 
 
Have you, or anyone else found a lighter substitute for the iron housings?  Racing Beat sells an aluminum version of the rear, and center housing, but they don't yet have a front housing available.  That's supposed to change in another 6 months though.  Unfortunately, they're about $1200 each, but save about 12 lbs or so for each housing.  RB claims that these are actually more durable than the iron housings. 
 
I know there was a guy on the list that was making a titanium engine, but I haven't heard from him in a while.
