David,
I've heard of many Turbo's failing and I firmly believe that fail from too much heat and overspinning in thin air IMHO. The answer is to restrict the exhaust before it gets to the turbo with a bypass system and only allow the exhaust you want to get to the turbo. This puts the turbo further down stream and therefore cooler.

The rebuild isn't for aviation application. Just a turbo swap into a project truck. Yeah, wouldn't that be nice to be able to do, but for the price it is much easier and cheaper as you found to just buy the T04 for the right application first time around.

From my experience, the best way to rebuild a T03 (for aviation use) is to send it to Turbonetics.
They replace everything with new T04 parts for the same price as a new T04, thus saving you the cost of three or more T03 rebuilds. :)
