Lancair recommended that I clamp the nose wheel during
prelim runups, so that there would be no sag. Additionally, I checked with
all concerned, and determined that my alignment was correct. We'll know
when we fire up in a couple of weeks or so. We have installed a 1" eyebolt
into a concrete wall to tie this nasty bastard down, and will chock it down
also. No chances taken here!!! Wait until you see my belly scoop
(ala' P-51) coming next week. Got to have somewhere to put the
radiator........
Thanks Bill;

The face of the cowl that aligns to the rear of the
spinner is not square with the plane. It is designed to align properly
when the engine is properly offset. That should give you a clue that you
have the offset correct. If you use rubber motor mounts that are too
soft, they will allow the engine to sag and screw up your alignment as well.
Be sure your mounts are ok before you align and fit your cowl. (Guess how I
know this.)
I am really blown away by that prop!
:>) I can hardly wait till you crank it up. My plane
causes the front strut to bottom out when I firewall it, but if you saw the
video of Tracy’s plane and think what yours will do with the turbo….It causes
some scary thoughts!
Be sure you tie it down and don’t just chock the
wheels….It may retract them…to the rear!

I was wondering if anyone would
notice that Bill. Lancair called for 1.5 degrees to the right, and down,
for their stock Continental/Lycoming layouts, and with much discussion, we
decided that it would work for us. We have 4" clearance with the tire
flat and the strut compressed, that should be enough I hope. That fan is
nasty looking isn't it.....(:-)

Looks really good, Greg. What thrust line
offsets did you use when you built your engine mount? How much ground
clearance do you have with that monster prop?
By the way, everybody. I have a set of prop
bolts that came from Saber Mfg. that I didn’t use. They are 7/16 X
6”. If anyone could use them, I can make you a good price. I
screwed them in one time, but realized that I needed to add an extension, so
couldn’t use them.

Progress
A couple of you wanted to see
what's going on, so here we are. Manifolds are out getting flow tested
and final welded. Next week is plumbing and wiring time. Gotta'
take a couple of days off, and do Hunney-do stuff. God, I love this
stuff......(:-)
Lancair 20B making
progress.
