Hey David;
Were you turboed? I have that option, but if I can
avoid a muffler, for all of the reasons mentioned, including the Mistral crash,
I would prefer it. Noise-canceling headsets are cheaper than all of the
other options.

I flew my first 100 hrs like that. It was acceptable, but still a
little louder than I wanted so I bit the bullet and added the extra pipe and
hung a muffler under the airframe. Personal preference, but I am glad I
did. Much more pleasant now on long trips and I get compliments on
how quite my RV sounds.

mounted on the Lancair, and was wondering if anyone had ever exited the 3"
downpipe right out of the side of the cowling, ala turbine exhaust types,
(thrust???) it would eliminate 2 bends, and about 3' of pipe, and with
