Tracy,
Your RV-8 ought to go like stink with that 3-rotor up front.  Sounds like it should be flying by October.

I'm using the Flowmaster and it is holding up, after dripping some of its guts onto the hangar floor.  Weld seams are holding up fine.  Muffling capacity is not what it was when it was new, but still quieter than my custom "spiral flow" muffler.

Buly most likely ran the battery down trying to get his tired ole Lycosaurus to run.  ;-)

Thanks for the video Mark, helps us all keep motivated.  My 20B RV-8 is to be painted this week (doing it prior to assembling all the pieces) and then I'll be ready for final assembly.   Had hoped to have that done and test hours finished by Oshkosh but I was forgetting the five weeks we will be away in Colorado starting next month.

Haven't tried the Borla muffler  yet but the HushPower II (Flomaster) is still doing well.   Most builders having good luck with it.  Jason H. has one too but he did have to re-weld up a failed welded seam on the side of the muffler.

Laura and I just got back from the Tallahassee fly-in where we ran into Buly & Doris.  Fly-in was very disorganized and poorly attended but is was great to visit with them.  Buly's Cozy was the big attraction (only canard there) but he has GOT to be tired of answering the question of how it takes off with the nose dragging on the ground like that.   Must have heard it at least 15 times while I was sitting around his plane.   His plane flys great (and looks fantastic) but he said it is slower (about 15 mph I think he said) with the 180 HP Superior engine than with the rotary.  The Renesis RV-4 flew flawlessly and rolled over the 1700 hour mark on the way there.  The Hobbs has quite a few missing hours on it due to being left disconnected after some under the panel work a couple of times.  Buly had to refuel before heading home so we departed first.  Just got a call from him telling us his battery was dead so he is still there getting that taken care of.

In the San Diego area there is Al Gietzen, Dave Leonard, Ryan S. Ryan (formerly George Graham's E-Racer), and myself. There are also a couple of guys I know who are considering rotary installs. Maybe not a hot bed but certainly a decent showing.

On the other hand Ryan is planning on replacing the rotary with a Subaru 6. I've been working on him to at least make an effort to resolve the issues he has before giving up. The E-Racer install is very crude. Biggest shortcomings are no muffler and the crude carb install which gives him erratic mixtures and high fuel consumption.

For some reason he has gotten the impression its impossible to install a muffler that will survive. What is the consensus choice on an off the shelf muffler these days? Has anyone tried Borla?

Great show, Mark! Liked the way it climbed out.  Yes, nothing like the $$ incentive to get the old dyed in the wool believers to switch to the rotary - try not to rub it in too much {:>)

Just got back from Mid-Atlantic Flyin where my rotary was very, very lonely {:>).  Seems like Texas is the current hot-bed of "successful" rotary activity.

If anyone is interested, I posted a video of my 3-rotor Lancair on Youtube.  I apologize in advance for the photography (my son-in-law took the video).  ;-)
And no, it isn't out of focus, it was 94* the day it was taken and what you're seeing is the heat coming off the runway.  Check it out at...
