Ok.. let me revise it to 2-3 thousands off.. (cant specifically remember now if it was too tight or too loose).. and made an adjustment in the manner described..

If it was too tight to begin with, then we made it worse, but I would hope I didn't make a boneheaded error like that with the manual right in front of me.

But its curious that only ONE was destroyed. the other bearing was just fine. Again, with the PSRU attached, BEFORE i made any mods to the pulley, I was unable to elicit any end play, but prior to PSRU install it was easily assessed. I am running on memory here of events that are over 2 years old.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Longer spacer = more end play. Shorter spacer + less end play.

Im pretty sure the end play was correct - I either talked to you or
bruce on the phone a while back (2004?? 2005??) when we got to this
stage because my end play was a little low - 2 or 3 thousands too
tight.. and it was fixed by wetsanding the spacer (with the letter
    on it
to denote size) for a bit to bring the end play into range (rather
    than
    ordering a new spacer)
