Here's the tool that I've found easiest to use, if running Windoze xp.
Go to:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Scroll down to 'Image Resizer' and download the file to your desktop or other convenient location.

Open & install the file. (You won't see any new program icons after installation.)

To resize a picture using the software, find the file using Windows Explorer or other file management software. Point at it with your mouse and *right* click. The popup menu will have an option to 'resize pictures'. Left click that, & pick the size you want. 'Small' results in an additional file of around 50k-80k & 'large' results in around 150k-250k image size. No resetting of camera image quality is required when you are actually taking photos.
