George, the 20 years before I retired, I worked in the natural gas industry and from my experience a dozen low pressure gauges right out of the box would not yield more than two or three with the same reading.  I have a Mallory pressure regulator from Jegs, part # 650-4309 which the instructions stated it was set at 3 pds. for the Weber carb.  It is hooked to an auto gauge, but I haven't put the fuel in yet.  I guess if it doesn't overpower the float needle value, I'll just go with the reading that comes up on the gauge, unless there is a fuel starvation issue.  JohnD

However it would be nice to know exactly what your putting to the carb. Apparently Paul Yaw has some good quality Industrial carbs which are accurate, I think he mentioned Nikki but I haven't been able to find them on the internet.
