Bob's right on the money about the ignition timing. Tracy's instructions have you set up 35Deg BTDC as the static timing. That becomes the maximum possible ignition advance. But, the EC2 electronically backs off (retards this) to 25Deg BTDC as the default ignition timing on start up (assuming you have set 35 deg BTDC as your static).
Then if you want more ignition advance, you use the mode 8? to advance or retard the ignition up to 10 degrees or retard it 10 degrees - either way from the 25 deg BTDC default. Max power (at sea level) for a two rotor is close to 25-27 deg advance for an N/A engine
I don't really know what happens if say you set the static at 25 degrees rather than 35 BTDC. If the EC2 automatically backs off 10 degrees from your static for its default (which I believe it does), then your default timing at start up (if you set 25 deg static instead of 35) would be 15 degrees BTDC which is way too retarded for an N/A engine.

Al, was 35° BTDC Tracys suggested timing? That sounds like too much lead to
me. I thought the base timing was closer to 25° than 35°. Not certain, but
that is the way I remember it. I think Lynn metioned running 28° total. Just the
way I remember it I certainly could be wrong.
