Dear Russell
You want to hear a stupid thing about insurance co I'm having my house insurance cancelled because I have a doberman dog. He never bit anyone and is like a 90lbs pussy cat when someone comes to the house BUT he is a doberman what an excuse to cancell. I can think of some people in washington DC that are more harmful that my dog. At least he is honest.

And our insurance agents?  Will policies pay out due to death while
piloting an experimental aircraft?  I've always assumed companies put in
boiler-plate wording against that sort of thing.

Most life insurance policies do have limitations that excluded flying any aircraft, much less experimental ones.  You have to make sure you get this all approved up front, rather than hoping it will all work out.  Philips offers cheap life insurance, but it has the exclusion, so I don't buy any of it.  State Farm can certainly sell you insurance that will cover you, but you will pay a bit more for it.

I also agree about the lawsuit thing.  My wife knows I wouldn't want her to sue anyone unless there was a very clear reason to do so.

Cheers,
Rusty (hoping not to use the insurance tomorrow)
