Al,
I have dual 50A ND alternators and two batteries.  If one quits, I can crossfeed the two systems and keep everything going and both batteries charged.  The two little ND alternators together are about a pound heavier than the Mazda alternator.  Maybe after I have enough hours and build up confidence (like Ed has done) in a single alternator/battery system, I may get rid of one of the alternators and the extra battery.  For now, its a good security blanket.

Mark;

Alternator failure isn't really an issue within the flyoff area because the batteries will always get me to the airport.  If you don't have the update for the voltage variation in the EC2, the mixture will get too lean fairly rapidly as the voltage drops.

Al
