Go with the ROtax for now!!
Play with the 1-rotor on a go-cart structure if you must go at speed!
Maybe you should change the engine size if you want to play with
rotaries:
Instead of going after the Mazda-Single Rotor, try to make the
Mid-West/NOrton/Diamond 2-rotor a pressure-oil lubricated version!
Hi
Thomas,
The single
rotor (using stock Mazda parts) will suffer in the power to weight department,
but won't really be any worse than the average Subaru. Unfortunately,
80-100 HP and 230 lbs is really too much for a single place Dominator. It
can be done, but probably isn't the best idea, particularly for a newbie gyro
pilot. One of the reasons I chose the Dominator is because it has an
impeccable reputation for being safe, and forgiving.
I already
have a small trailer that I was planning to make into a mobile test stand for
the single rotor. That's probably still the safest way to proceed.
Once I get it all tested (mostly worried about the Autoflight drive), I can find
something to put it in. This really isn't a bad plan, because it gives me
a stock gyro to fly, and a rotary project to tinker with. Maybe by
the time I'm ready to install it, someone will come out with lighter
housings.
Cheers,
Rusty
