Al I'm not suggesting to build an exhaust manifold out of it. I'm saying build a hollow casing in witch to run your exhaust pipes thru it keeping the radiant temp down. Might even be able to use aluminum as a "flashing" to support the ceramic if it needed it.

It's good thinking, as far as I'm concerned Tony, but ceramics tend to be brittle. Ed ran some test with trying to use stainless steel cuttings as an exhaust packing material. The rotary pulse pulverized the stuff and blew it out the back of the exhaust. I know quite a bit of work has been done to make ceramics more flexible, but do you think it could stand up to that sort of punishment? I suspect that even a solid casing around a stainless steel exhaust would be turned to powder by the energy transmitted through the pipe. You'd have to provide an isolation space, and by the time you do that, an thin sheet metal shield will be lighter, cheaper and easier to fabricate.
However, it is all guessticualtion until somebody tries it.
