I asked the local FSDO to upgrade my operating limitations, so that I could
test fly my new gearbox and prop.  The inspector said that he would have to reinspect my bird, which he did a few weeks later.

He brought a "technical expert" with him to assist, as he was not familiar with that engine type.  After a brief look over, my inspector asked his helper if he had any questions, to which he replied" Just one, what kind of motor is that?"

I answered" A Mazda rotary".  He asked again " Well what kind of motor is that?"

I answered " A Wankle". He was getting nowhere and repeated" No, what kind of motor is that".

I went for the whole shebang this time "It is a Mazda 13B Wankle rotary motor, out of a Mazda RX7 sports car"

Ohhhhh, that's it!.  It is a car motor!

Issue resolved, he signed the new Airworthiness Certificate and operating limits.
