Yes total inlet area for radiators and oil cooler is now about 57 square
inches. The one radiator duct only has an 9 square inche opening. The other
one and oil cooler remain for the moment at 24 square inches each. I
suspect that the one radiator with the unmodified duct and the oil cooler
are picking up some of the heat load and coolant temp did increase by 5 F.
I am a little hesitant to reduce the other radiator to 9 square inches as
somehow my gut feel is that the coolant temp wouldn't just increase by
possible another 5F but considerably more - guess there is only one way to
find out {:>).
I think when this is said and done I will find I can reduce the ducts
through using my "modified" K&M profile inlets and still have adequate
cooling. Perhaps both ducts might end up around 12-15 square inches.
I think there should be some decrease in cooling drag if I reduce the
intakes as that clearly shows the air that was going in wasn't doing as good
a job as it could - given the sharp wall turns I probably had a lot of air
flow turbulence and eddies. Also I need would then need to do something
about my 28x 4 1/2 air flow outlet to reduce the drag I am certain it is
causing.
But, right now I am trying to get manifold #4 done in time to fly it to
Shady Bend rotary flyin in October. Do you plan on going?
Best Regards
Ed
