Dodge vs Ford
Did a very simple flight test on the recut sensenich wood prop
compared to Ed A's loaner Performance prop.
Did static test comparison several hours apart today. Temp about 75 degrees
(no fires nice weather, just hurricanes huh Rusty??), turned the Perf prop 5160
rpm. Ed and Tracy reported 5200 hundred with this prop. Did you ever spin the
Tracy prop Rusty on your -3? Had previous to rework been spiinning the Sensenich
about 4150 rpm, today spun it only 4380. Yuk, they thought they would get me up
to 5000.
Decided to accelerate the Sen down the runway and if felt good to fly with
it. Schocking, it climbed 400 fpm better at 90 knots than the Perf. During WOT
run it turned 5600 and 150 Kias. The thermals were booming when I did the test
with the Perf and it only did 145Kias, but the turbulence can certainly effect
the speed run, so not exactly a fair comparison. The airplane seemed much
smoother with the Perf subjectively. Ed had his prop balanced on the airplane.
It may be that it was compensating for the engine some and actually made it
worse on my plane.
After talking to Don at Sensenich, we decided to fly with it a while before
doing anything rash. I want to clean up the exit area some also to see if it
will turn up a little more without the excess drag area there.
Ed, your prop fits in the 9. If you think you might wish to take it back
from Lakeland , I will see if it fits in Gabe's 6 tip up. If you prefer, I can
ship it back or wait until I'm driving to NC and bring it then , your
choice.
Bernie, no mud, no dust, no carpet coming loose, just a beautiful
day!
