It primarily an additional position for those with very narrow installations and the only place to put a starter is at the bottom. I prefer the LHS but that sits over a mounting hole position, which is primarily for the starter in the Car installation anyway. If you send me your e-mail address, I will send you a photo. I believe the RX8 bellhousing mounting holes are the same - but could be wrong. That's something I haven't as yet checked.
