Subject: Shuttle STS-114 Launch
Hi Friends,
Great experience today to see the "Return to Flight" launch of the space
shuttle "Discovery".
Jo Anne and I had tickets to sit with the Friends of the Astronauts. The
commander of STS-114, Eileen Collins, was in a propulsion course that I
taught at the AF Test Pilot School during the 80's when she was a student
there. A neat student, but never suspicioned she might one day be the
first USA female space commander.
She arranged for us to get the guest tickets. We were the closest any
one other than the guys in the armored vehicles by the pad . Laura, the
first lady, and Jeb Bush, Florida Governor were in the bleachers next to
ours with all the political guests. I was just as happy to be with
aviation families :>)
We plan to go back to see the landing where we get to sit by the edge of
the runway in about 12 days.
Here are a couple of email picts that I made. Nothing professional but
felt I had to at least document we were there!
Please keep this mission in your prayers,
Bernie
