Hey Guy's
Well I've now got an EWP from Davies, Craig in Oz. I like the idea and
prefer the advice of one who has used them over number crunchers who
haven't. No offence to those, and while I can appreciate your math, I prefer
real world data. So to put an end to this debate I decided to try one and
find out for myself. I will report all results fairly and accurately.
My install has the mechanical water pump removed although this isn't
necessary, but it saves 10 lbs. However I am prepared to reinstall it should
this be necessary. I have great confidence that it will work, but I'm not
willing to die to prove it either.
The pump only took 6 days to be delivered from Australia. It looks to be
well made, a good design & it's lightweight.
I've wired in the controller already. I did make a modification to the
controller, by removing the internal trim pot and wiring in a small dash
mounted trim pot. This will allow me to make fine adjustments of the engine
temp while in flight. A little colder --- a little more power (not that I
don't already have enough) and a little hotter --- a little more fuel
economy.
It comes with removable mounting flanges and adapters from 1.25" up to 2"
hose. But since I'm using 1" hose I made a couple of mounting flanges from
aluminium. Easy to make. just used a 2.5" hole saw to cut a flange from .25"
aluminium plate, then TIG weld on a 1.75" piece of 3/4 aluminium pipe
(1"OD)for a nipple, then true it up on a lathe & cut in hose barbs on the
nipple. Took about an hour to make 2 of them. They look good.
I will post pics of the installation soon. Test data won't be for a few
months yet.
A big Thanks to Leon who was good enough to supply it to me.
