The guys from Kelly Aerospace at that turbo forum at Oshkosh were
ADAMANT about NOT running a straight turbo (no wastegates or controls of any
type). There was also one guy that spoke up who had grenaded an engine in a
homebuilt on takeoff, trying to manually control boost with the throttle. A
runaway boost situation happens very quickly and usually close to the ground
(takeoff or a go-around), the worst possible location. Mike C.
