Hi, all....I just installed a M10x1/0 VDO
water temp sensor in the water temp location next to the oil filter. Hooked it
to my AV-10 engine monitor, and readings are incorrect. Prior to starting the
engine, my ECU indicated 26C (78F), but my engine monitor indicated
148F. Then I ran it for a couple of minutes to see if the
temps would climb, and they did. The ECU temp went up to 32C (89F) and the
engine monitor display read 160F. I will go into my AV-10 engine monitor
manual and try to find out if it requires a different sensor than VDO, or if it
can be calibrated, etc. It worked very well attached to the stock Mazda
water temp sender located on the water pump housing, but that is when I
mistakenly shared it's connection with the ECU. When the engine monitor
read 230 degrees, the water would in fact be boiling and spitting out the
overflow tank, so if it wasn't totally accurate, it was obviously very
close. Engine is still running great, however, so there's hope. I
just would prefer both temp displays working properly before flying it.
Take care. Paul Conner
