Congrats Rusty, doesn't it feel nice to fly behind
something you re-built yourself? I'm sure glad you went that route instead
of selling the RV-3.
I appreciate all the comments about the first
run. I'm still pretty happy about the rebuild so far. Today, I
got the leaks either stopped, or slowed to an eventual drip. I just
couldn't run the engine long enough to figure out which, since I
have no prop on it, and therefore no airflow to the coolers. It's in
serious need of tuning, since I changed the fuel pressure, and the injector
size, but it starts pretty easy, and runs reasonably well. I do think
I'm off on the timing a bit, but plenty of time (sorry) for that later.
I also finished the installation of the FJO wideband O2
meter. I already love the fact that I can actually see and trust the range
from 10 to 20 AFR. This should really aid tuning, and will be very cool
when leaning in cruise. The unit also has an output that sends a
0-1V signal out to your ECU, so the EM-2 is using that.
I used my old plugs for the first run yesterday, so I
wouldn't fill the new plugs up with assembly goo. I did a cold compression
check today, and got 90 bounces on every face of both rotors.
I figure I'm still an easy month away from flying
again, but at least the end is in sight.
Cheers,
Rusty (easier to keep the RV-3 than change my email
address)
