Thanks for all the welder info. FWIW, I ordered the Miller Dynasty 200DX
today. It will clearly do more than I will ever figure out, but I'm damned
determined to try. I've even instructed my wife to harass me if I buy this
expensive (about $3500 for everything) tool, and don't learn to use it.
Anyone want a Henrob torch :-) I have to admit that I didn't get the
package that had the foot pedal. I can see how nice it would be if you had
a nice bench to weld at, but unfortunately, that won't really be the case
for me. I'll try the finger control, and go to the pedal later if needed.
I even followed Todd's advice and bought an autodarkening helmet. Yep, I've
truly gone off the deep end.
BTW- no insurance yet, though the hanger folks say I can use any general
liability insurance, and there is such a thing as premises coverage.
Everyone tells me that I can get this, so I'm waiting for quotes. Also for
the record, everyone keeps telling me to talk to Falcon, but I've called
them 3 times now, and they haven't called me back. I'm starting to take
this personally, but it won't stop me from calling them again in the morning
:-)
On another note, I've realized (and Todd has pointed out) that my simple pop
off valve isn't going to work as I had thought, because it's a differential
device. 2 psi sounds nice at sea level, but at altitude, 2 psi over ambient
is a waste of 30 pounds. Rethinking now.

[I thought that the pop-off was an absolute device and not a differential one (ie, one that controls "manifold ABSOLUTE pressure", and not the difference between MAP and ambient). I admit that I just "assumed" that to be the case, but you know what they say about assumptions <g>. <Marv> ]
