I'd like to second that. I bought my first major machine tool, a 12" x 36" lathe, almost 20 years ago. About a year later, I bought a "bench" mill with a 7"x32" table. The lathe has seen a lot of use, but I've spent for more time in front of the mill. Moreover, the mill has been essential to the completion of a lot of projects.
