[FlyRotary] Re: AN16 hose fitting question
Tell you what,
Rusty
If you don't like the fit, I'll buy the
AN16 fitting from you - as I know it fits on
mine
Ed
Thanks for the offer, but I won't hold you to it. I
ordered the Earls part from Summit last night, with an ETA of mid April, but I
stopped in the local race shop to see if they could get one
sooner. Their supplier doesn't carry that part in stock, so they
couldn't get it any faster. However, they asked if I needed it to be
Earls, because their supplier said they had a similar Moroso in stock, and
cheaper. I told them to go ahead and get it, but I still won't have
it until the end of next week. I'm feeling confident that one
or both will fix me
up.
I tapped the inlet to my new pump housing today, and it
came out pretty nice. About the first 3/4" has good threads all
around, but beyond that, the housing was a little out of
round. Beyond the first 3/4", there's about 45 degrees where there
are no threads. I don't see this to be a problem, when coupled with some
JB Weld on the threads. Others, I'm sure, will
disagree.
Now for today's bonus question- Try to name one thing that Ed
won't stuff in his exhaust pipe :-)
Cheers,
Rusty
Ok,
Rusty, I give up. What won't I stuff in my tail pipe?
Money? Nope, already done that! Several times {:>). So far, I
have found that the following materials have not worked:
1. Stainless Steel scrub pads ( a dozen or
more stuffed in each pipe). Lasted longer than anything else I've tried
(also the cheapest material purchased)
2. Metal exhaust resitrictors (three
perforated mild steel metal disk around a 1/2" pipe). Effective in
reducing the volume of noise, but lived less than 2 months. This might
have some promiss if made out of heavy gauge Stainless Steel.
3. SilcoSoft a scila based material rated
to 2000F. Withstood the heat just fine, but the exhaust pulse blew it
into dust in one flight.
Some suggested materials
1. Stainless steel shavings (metal working
residue)
2. Carbon Fiber (my guess is that it would
withstand the heat but would succum to the exhaust pulse blast)
3. Rock Wool material/Lava
rock? Don't have a clue but sounds heavy.
By the way, Rusty if you have 3/4" of good
threads, then you really don't need to expoy the fitting in. A large
soft aluminum washer has sealed my AN16 adapter into the pump inlet just
fine.
