Hi, Ernest....it would be wonderful for us canard builders to be able to get rid of the belts, as they are located very close to our aileron push-pull tubes. The loss of a belt could also mean the loss of aileron control. Converting to an EWP is of course, easy.  If I can find a way to eliminate the belt to an alternator, I will be a happy camper indeed !!!!  Please continue sharing any information you may find.  Thanks for sharing your ideas.  Paul Conner, 13b powered SQ2000 canard

The encouragement is very heartening, Paul.  So far I have nothing but an idea, some napkin scribbling, a LOT of guesses and a contact for an electrical engineer that specializes in generators.  My biggest concern is "what does a rotating magnetic field do to the ignition timing pickup?"  How close can you put an alternator/generator to this thing and still get reliable ignition timing?
