[FlyRotary] Re: cowl on
No sweat.....Hey, I am
just happy that someone occasionally looks at my web page (which Really needs
updating...
I down loaded that image a long time ago
and had forgotten where it came from.
heck, I am not even in
the garage any more....we moved the project to an Ellington Field (EFD) hangar
two weeks ago.. It was kinda funny to look at the pix and think hey, that looks
a lot like my place/project.....wait!. That IS my project <g>
David Staten has cleaned
up/ported/painted our 13b and we are currently waiting for the
rebuild kit to arrive. So far, the stock cowl seems to be working on the
smaller 13b.....
My 20B fit fine in the stock cowl, I just
didn’t like the bumps on the side meant to accommodate those horizontal
cylinders, and the open back end; all in the name of lower drag and cleaner
airflow into the prop.
The timing of your post
is funny....I started my cowl/wing transitions this week. I am about 98%
done with the structural parts of the airframe/wings/canard....I think the cowl
is the last (other than some "minor" fairings)....then I gotta make
it "pretty" <g> and start the real work, micro, sand
repeat....interior, engine....and finally instruments. Geesh.
Yeah; it seems like it never ends.
And having the airframe complete gives you the illusion of having an airplane; but
really you have just done the easy part. I did my filling, sanding and
priming in a few steps along the way so I wouldn’t have to do it all at
once. That way, having it look nice, heightened the illusion even more J. (I pretended it gave
me more motivation.)
I gotta admint, yours
looks way better than mine. Maybe that will be something to aspire to
after we are all flying. ;-)
Yes; that’s a point. I tend
to work at getting things done the way I want while it is still handy here in
my garage. I have 3 airports, each within 20 minutes; one runway is too
short, one has no hangars available, and the other has no hangars available,
AND they won’t let you land until you’ve flown off your 40 hours.
(I always wonder how they enforce that.) So that will put me an hour away
– not a good place to work on the plane.
Best,
Al
