Marcotte suggests using 80w140 mineral or synthetic gear oil. The resvoir is for extra oil and for the PSRU to vent into. According to the drawing it looks like the oil fills about 2/3 of the gearbox. Sounds like a pretty good idea. I won't be pumping dirty hot engine oil into the PSRU. That is how the big guys (airliners) lube the transmission for the generators.
