I'd like to add to that information. Yes the 3rd gen oil cooler (note
singular) is much smaller. I don't know how they get away with that and
to see, I installed an oil temp gauge in my 1994 tt. One cooler is
marginal at best, but that was the way the vast majority of FDs were
sold-only the R1 and R2 models of the FD (3rd gen) had 2 oil coolers,
and there were not many of them. The automatic models used the right
hand scoop for the tranny cooler (same type construction as the right
hand oil cooler) so maybe you can use that as well for an oil cooler
(takes lots of pressure no?). In any case these smaller coolers give you
a bit of flexibility in mounting arrangements, so get 3 or 4 of them off
